This is a quote from a birthday card I got this year. And, after recently attending a performance by the amazing youth performing arts center, Circus Juventas, I realize more and more how this is true. And how our attitude makes all the difference.
As I watched these performers fly through the air, I sat with anticipation and anxiety. Will they catch each other? Will they make it? I was tense. Probably an OK state for me to be in as I was on the ground ... but the daredevils? High, high above the popcorn-littered floor? Tense was not an option. They all hung, swung and flew in complete ease and trust ... loose and languid ... focused and free. They knew, if they tensed up or held back, a disaster could happen. (Or at least a semi-embarrassing fall to the safety net.)
They all knew that life truly was happening right that very moment ... and they dove in. Literally. And that's what made all the difference.
For my part, I travel not to go anywhere, but to go. I travel for travel's sake. The great affair is to move. - Robert Louis Stevenson

The gem I found in my inbox today from a favorite source: "Your emotion does not create.
Emotion is your indicator of what you are already creating." I've posted this on Twitter, I've scribbled it on my notebook, I've sent it to my fella, I'm tattooing it on my hand so I remember, remember, remember: Emotion is our gauge of how we are BEING. Emotion lets us know if we're on course or off. Emotion informs us of what is or what is about to happen in our lives. Emotion is our crystal ball, our tuning fork, our own personal soothsayer. Emotion is our BFF who tells us we have broccoli in our teeth, who nudges us to act, who offers up her frank opinion on everything in our lives -- good and bad. Emotion rocks.
(How are you feeling -- or should I say BEING -- today as you travel through life?)

Ethically Adventurous

Hello travelers ... Elissa here. My friend Tim just sent me this link and I had to share it: ethicaltraveler.org. It's a cool site that helps adventurers of all kinds explore our world with a clean conscience and a pure heart. Sounds very evolutionary to me. A quote from their site sums up our kindred spirits and moves me to ... move! Check it out:
"I take very seriously the sense of our living
these days in a global neighborhood. And the first sensible thing to do
in such circumstances, as well as one of the most rewarding things, is
to go and meet the neighbors, find out who they are, and what they
think and feel. So travel for me is an act of discovery and of
responsibility as well a grand adventure and a constant liberation." - Pico Iyer
Nice.
So ... it's like watching a movie and trying to make the actors change what they're doing...

"(Your life) is about realization, not about changing anything. The world is as you perceive it to be. For me, clarity is a word for beauty. It's what I am. And when I'm clear, I see only beauty. Nothing else is possible. I am mind perceiving my thoughts, and everything unfolds from that, as if it were a new solar system pouring itself out in its delight. If I'm not clear, then I'm going to project all my craziness out onto the world, as the world, and I'll perceive a crazy world and think that it is the problem. We've been working on the projected image for thousands of years and not on the projector. That's why life seems to be chaotic ... But when you meet your thoughts with understanding, the world changes. It has to change, because the projector of the entire world is you. You're it!" -Byron Katie, Loving What Is

"Take the time to line up the Energy first, and action becomes
inconsequential. If you don't take the time to line up the Energy, if you
don't find the feeling place of what you're looking for, not enough action
in the world will make any difference." -Abraham
Elissa here. Going to meditate on this quote all day in light of new intentions for this new year ... Just like we say at e>v: "Be" first, then "Do" ... What a wonderful reminder.

Come on! Sing along in your head ... this simple, wonderful, glorious little ditty......
I think I'm going to make it my song of the WEEKEND as I head to a cabin in Wisconsin, the e>v e-guide in tow.... Freedom, here I COME!!!

If You Want To Sing Out, Sing Out
by Cat Stevens
Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free
cause theres a million things to be
You know that there are
And if you want to live high, live high
And if you want to live low, live low
cause theres a million ways to go
You know that there are
Chorus:
You can do what you want
The opportunitys on
And if you can find a new way
You can do it today
You can make it all true
And you can make it undo
You see ah ah ah
Its easy ah ah ah
You only need to know
Well if you want to say yes, say yes
And if you want to say no, say no
cause theres a million ways to go
You know that there are
And if you want to be me, be me
And if you want to be you, be you
cause theres a million things to do
You know that there are
Chorus
Well, if you want to sing out, sing out
And if you want to be free, be free

Food for Thought

"We want you to enjoy the contrasting experience, just like you enjoy the contrasting buffet. And we want you to reach the place ... that whenever you're in front of a buffet that has so much that you do like to eat, as well as some that you don't like to eat, you don't feel frustrated that there are things there you don't want to eat. You don't feel compelled to put them on your plate and eat them; you just pick the things that you like. And the Universe of thought is the same way. You can choose from it the things that you like." - Abraham/Hicks
To have or have not...

In my inbox this morning was the answer .... As always, it's really quite simple. On the road, in life, from the universe ....
"Too often, the only difference between HAVE and HAVE NOT depends on whether or not the initial request was followed by a thank you, yee-haa, and action, rather than a question mark, timidity, and TV. Don't ask. Give thanks. Bust a move." - The Universe

Ah yes ... the journey IS a sacred thing ...

A lovely thought, found and brought to you by the one and only Rachel Swan:
Every time you leave home,
Another road takes you
Into a world you were never in.
New strangers on other paths await.
New places that have never seen you
Will startle a little at your entry.
Old places that know you well
Will pretend nothing
Changed since your last visit.
When you travel, you find yourself
Alone in a different way,
More attentive now
To the self you bring along,
Your more subtle eye watching
You abroad; and how what meets you
Touches that part of the heart
That lies low at home:
How you unexpectedly attune
To the timbre in some voice,
Opening in conversation
You want to take in
To where your longing
Has pressed hard enough
Inward, on some unsaid dark,
To create a crystal of insight
You could not have known
You needed
To illuminate
Your way.
When you travel,
A new silence
Goes with you,
And if you listen,
You will hear
What your heart would
Love to say.
A journey can become a sacred thing:
Make sure, before you go,
To take the time
To bless your going forth,
To free your heart of ballast
So that the compass of your soul
Might direct you toward
The territories of spirit
Where you will discover
More of your hidden life,
And the urgencies
That deserve to claim you.
May you travel in an awakened way,
Gathered wisely into your inner ground;
That you may not waste the invitations
Which wait along the way to transform you.
May you travel safely, arrive refreshed,
And live your time away to its fullest;
Return home more enriched, and free
To balance the gift of days which call you.

9. Everybody has their own private Mount Everest they were put on this earth to climb.
You may never reach the summit; for that you will be forgiven. But if you don't make at least one serious attempt to get above the snow-line, years later you will find yourself lying on your deathbed, and all you will feel is emptiness. This metaphorical Mount Everest doesn't have to manifest itself as "Art". For some people, yes, it might be a novel or a painting. But Art is just one path up the mountain, one of many. With others the path may be something more prosaic. Making a million dollars, raising a family, owning the most Burger King franchises in the Tri-State area, building some crazy oversized model airplane, the list has no end.
Whatever. Let's talk about you now. Your mountain. Your private Mount Everest. Yes, that one. Exactly.
Let's say you never climb it. Do you have a problem witb that? Can you just say to yourself, "Never mind, I never really wanted it anyway" and take up stamp collecting instead?
Well, you could try. But I wouldn't believe you. I think it's not OK for you never to try to climb it. And I think you agree with me. Otherwise you wouldn't have read this far.
So it looks like you're going to have to climb the frickin' mountain. Deal with it.
My advice? You don't need my advice. You really don't. The biggest piece of advice I could give anyone would be this:
"Admit that your own private Mount Everest exists. That is half the battle."And you've already done that. You really have. Otherwise, again, you wouldn't have read this far.
Rock on.
